Girl Crush - Chloë Sevigny

I have adored Chloë Sevigny since I saw her in Kids and Boys Don't Cry. I love that she's not a classic beauty yet she is interesting, completely gorgeous and very relatable. Her roles have been many and varied as she has always said she just does roles that she likes rather than trying to make it big.
But what I love most is her involvement in fashion. Discovered on the street in New York by Sassy in 1992 (check out this babe!) and then modelling for X-girl she was definitely chosen for her unique look and sense of style. She's often been photographed at events and appeared on worst dressed lists then a little way down the track what ever she's wearing is the next big thing. People who have criticized her have on occasion sharply backtracked. Or they haven't but maybe she's not dressing for them...
(these outfits have all got her on worst dressed lists)

So, imagine my delight when she started working on Chloe Sevigny for Opening Ceremony! The clothes are just so cool, and I think much like her choice in roles she plays and her personal style, these collections have been about what she likes.

And now for a bit of Chloë gorgeousness...

Read my lips

I love a good red lip. There is something very old hollywood glamour about it and a healthy dose of va-va-voom! it brings to mind beautiful starlets and women in charge. I think it helps take any look from bland to foxy with the greatest of ease...
Marylin Monroe, Fairuza Balk, unknown, Lana Del Ray, Desperately Seeking Susan, Gwen Stefani, Zambesi

Much to my delight, Hannah at Rookie did a brilliant tutorial recently about how to apply lipstick to last a whole day - check it  out here - which is awesome for me as I'm not very used to wearing lipstick. I have often shied away from it because I felt like it always wears off in patches when eating and drinking and ends up looking less than glamorous. However after seeing the tutorial I'm keen to be brave!

Bubble Pop Electric

No longer for ravers, currently trending are electrics and fluorescent poppy colours to really add some vibrancy to our winter wardrobes.

I swooned big time at New Zealand Fashion Week seeing the Zambesi AW12 collection, as a child of the 80s I had never really thought of fluoro being anything fashion forward or cutting edge but I was floored:

If you're scared to go for a kaleidoscopic array of shocking colours then I think the number one choice for embracing the trend has to be electric blue. We've seen it for a couple of seasons but it's a trend that is still going strong. Sophisticated enough even for us to wear to work to inject some excitement into wardrobe staples. I for one am hoping to create some electric blue pieces for the tailored suits we are doing in class right now, I just need to find the right bright. Watch this space!

I'm hoping this blog will be full of all sorts of goodies: mood boards, projects, discussions, cute things and maybe a bit of shameless self promotion!
